Field Trips

Billing Farm:

Throughout the year Zack’s Place visits Billings Farm for educational and fun activities. This can include learning how to shear a sheep, make butter or watch the process for making maple syrup. We also tour the farm and historic house giving us the opportunity to visit the animals and see a glimpse of what life was like at the turn of the century. These programs are always accessible to all and very well organized.

Wellwood Orchards:

Field trips to Wellwood orchard allow us to take walks on the beautiful property at the top of a mountain while collecting the fruit of the season. In the fall we pick apples which we bring back to use in our baking classes. In the summer we visit Wellwood to collect Blueberries and Raspberries.

Calvin Cooliddge Homestead

We are extraordinarily fortunate to have the Calvin Coolidge Homestead and State Historic Site in nearby Plymouth Vermont.Once a year we visit the homestead and birthplace of our 30th President of The United States. It is not only the boyhood home of President Coolidge, it is where he historically and unprecedentedly was administered the oath of presidency by the light of a kerosene lamp by his father.

We can enjoy the breathtaking grounds, out buildings and artifacts of President Coolidge’s birthplace and childhood home surrounded by the gorgeous Green Mountains.

Shaker Museum

Once a year we travel to the shores of nearby gorgeous Mascoma Lake New Hampshire to visit the Enfield Shaker Museum. This extremely popular field trip gives us an incredible understanding and
appreciation of the Shaker community that was founded in 1793. Led by an amazing docent, we learn about Enfields Shakers’ heritage. Each year, we gain more knowledge and insight about the fascinating history of The Shakers.

The Fairbanks Museum

We visit the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium in St Johnsbury Vermont at least once a year. This world class museum is truly ” a place to marvel at the wonders of the world.” Founded in 1890 this museum has an enormous collection of natural specimens, taxidermy, and other natural wonders.The museum is also home to the Lyman Spitzer Jr Planetarium and local “Eye on the Sky” weather Center.

We have learned so much about the earth, the stars and outer space. We are so lucky to have this renowned museum in the state of Vermont.

Vermont State House

Once a year we have the privilege to visit The Vermont State House in Montpelier Vermont. The Vermont State House is immaculately preserved and is one of the oldest of our nations’ state capitals.

We have been warmly hosted by Alison Clarkson of the Vermont State Senate and by Charlie Kimbel, our state representative. During our visit we tour the State Capital’s important art and we appreciate the inner workings of our state government. Each year we have been invited to sing before our state law makers. It is a day filled with learning and appreciation for our state government of Vermont.

Christa McAuliffe

Once a year we travel to Concord NH to visit the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center . This impressive museum and Planetarium pays tribute to New Hampshire space pioneers Christa McAuliffe and Alan Shepard. Here we explore the museum and stargaze in the Planetarium. Our thirst for information and knowledge about our earth,solar system and space travel is never ending!
